1969 Detroit
drag way
Milt Schornack GTO Mr. Eliminator of the Day Trophy Signed twice over real trophy.
Milt came into my shop all the time and one day I asked him if he had any old trophies or time slips from some of the cars he drove, He though nothing of all these now famous race cars but he worked on and ran them all at the
Detroit
drag-way
back in the day. To me the stories were amazing and so were the cars. While some people go to work for a lifetime and just do there thing they don't
realize
how they changed or had an impact on an entire industry or era. That was Milt, Pick up any old car magazine and if it was a story of a
Pontiac
from the 60's or early 70's there he is in the pictures, tall, lanky guy with an
unforgettable
profile one foot perpendicular to the other standing in the background thinking nothing of what was going on all around him. He was right smack dab in the middle of it all and
rarely
took or got much credit. He worked on the cars, helped
develop
the royal bobcat and drove all the cars at the track. I was proud to know him and listen to his stories. This past winter he passed after slipping and hitting his head, he never recovered. He still had projects to do and was planning shows. He will be missed.
One day he came into my shop holding this trophy and told me a story, got this with one of the bobcat cars in 1969, it was one of the few he held on to for over 50 years, but since I had a bobcat car he was willing to sell it to me, I made him sign it and here it is. It is the real deal, metal heavy weight trophy. A piece of history.
I am down sizing my collection of stuff so here it is, how do you put a price on this - i guess you just come up with a number and here it is - call me crazy but I have sold NOS parts for far more and they are just plastic and metal. What is one mans
accomplishments worth
wrapped
up in a trophy that says it all - Mr. Eliminator Milt
